I'm currently in Connecticut, where I've spent the past few days at my parents' place in Danbury. It's only the second Thanksgiving I've spent with my parents in the past ten years, so it's been interesting.

Rather than have turkey on Thanksgiving itself, we postponed it until Friday. On Thursday, we left the house at six AM and drove to Brewster, NY, where we caught a train for Grand Central Station.

It was a perfect day, not too cold, and very sunny, as we made our way west to Times Square. We set up camp in front of Sephora, across the square from the MTV studios, to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

I had only been able to go to the parade once, but since it was about forty degrees and raining then, this was much more pleasant.

Sights of Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken and Barney were inflicted upon me, but I did get to see Matt Gallant, who hosts The Planet's Funniest Animals, and also saw some great balloons and some very talented high school marching bands, including that of Jones High School, all the way from Orlando! :)

We stayed for about two-thirds of the parade and then caught a Metro North train back to Brewster Village station.

On the way back, there were an awful lot of swans in the lakes by the train tracks. In one lake alone, there were probably fifty of them. And the landscape is so different from what I am used to now. It's familiar, because I did spend several years up here all told, but seeing mountains, or even rocks, is just so unusual to me, that it was fun to watch.

By the time we got back to the house, I was so tired that I had trouble getting to sleep. I've really been burning the candle at both ends, and at ends it doesn't even have, lately.

Dad grilled some steaks on Thursday and he and Mom went to bed about eight. I stayed up later to chat with my Diagon Alley pals and get that much-appreciated phone call from Will.

Friday I called my realtor, Candy. I had told her earlier this week that I wanted to put a bid in on the townhouse Will and I had seen last weekend. Well, poor Candy got the flu this week and so her mom was answering her office phone. It turned out that the fax I got at my office on Wednesday was incomplete. I had only gotten part of the disclosure and had faxed that back, but Candy's mom sent me the offer, and I signed it and sent that back yesterday as well.

I still haven't heard anything at all. I know this is not unusual with house-buying, especially on a weekend, but it is my first purchase, and is therefore kind of nerve-wracking.

Mom took care of all the Thanksgiving dinner stuff yesterday and it all turned out superbly. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with NO LUMPS, gravy, cranberry-orange relish, etc. Fabulous. We wound up the evening with a viewing of The Muppet Christmas Carol and crashed.

Today, snow flurries pursued us as Mom and I went shopping while Dad went to a sports bar to watch sixty or seventy college football games at once.

We hit an organizing store, where we got a paper towel holder (exciting, I know, but very necessary at my place), and then we went on to Costco, where I got a royal blue table runner. Then it was on to Linens 'n' Things to get decorating ideas, and finally to Home Depot to check out ceiling fans. They had some really sweet ceiling fans. Some of them have blades that look like leaves:

We met Dad for dinner at the Sycamore Diner, which has a 50's atmosphere and usually plays music to match. Unfortunately, tonight their vintage jukebox was out of order and so though the clam strips were good, we had "music" of the likes of Britney-'n'-Madonna's-lesbian-fest and Avril Lavigne. Oh well. At least it doesn't take long to cook or eat diner fare.

Right now I'm in the basement, which is really the family room, while my dad watches the aftermath of the Florida/Florida State game. Nice fight, afterwards. From what I heard about the refereeing, I'm not surprised. I'd have been out there biting people and ripping arms off too.

Anyway. Not sure what we're doing the rest of the night except I am on MORE PINS AND NEEDLES about this house thing. I love this place.

Tomorrow we leave at 5:30 AM to get me to JFK airport for my early flight back to Orlando. That cute Will is going to pick me up. He is so nice. *sigh*
