2003-12-18 - 9:34 a.m. More news from I-work-with-the-functionally-illiterate: There's a program a lot of our people have to login to that requires a username, password, and domain. The domain used to be a drop-down field where you could choose yours from a list. For some reason that's been changed, and you now need to type your domain in. This, of course, causes serious problems for lusers, because they could remember their domain when they saw it right in front of them, but now they don't know what it is, and boy are they angry about it! Well, we've been fielding a lot of calls on this topic, as you can probably guess. This latest guy to call me, though, confused me because he didn't tell me what he was trying to login to. Instead he just said, "I don't know my dominance." "Pardon me?" I asked. "I don't know my dominance. I need to know my dominance." "Your dominance?" I was stalling for time here. "Yes. It says I need a username, a password, and a dominance." "Oh!" I finally got it. "Your domain?" "Yes. Sorry." However, he was apparently not sorry, because he referred to it as a "dominance" roughly fifteen more times during the course of the call.
